Admin: Web site changes

For the past few weeks, you might have notices some subtle changes on the web site, be it the addition of Feedburner to handle the RSS feeds, BlogRush to bring in additional blog articles on political issues, as well as the sign-up announcement on Technorati.  What you haven’t noticed is the problems I am having on the Admin side trying to configure the web site to accept all of these changes.  So, to the purpose of this announcement.

Over the next few days (and possibly weeks), you will notice the web site design changing back and forth from the current design to the old design I was running 9 months ago.  What you will be witnessing is me going into the program, changing the theme from the current one to the old one in order to reconfigure the site “live.”  When I am taking a break from retooling the site design, I will switch back to the current theme for the ease of use.  Once I have the blog theme squared away, I will use that as a template to retool the rest of the web site design.

What I will be working towards is a simple three-column design without a footer for the blog.  On the left-hand side, I will have:

- a simple navigation menu (rather than tabs at the top of the page)
- the BlogRush control box, providing new material each time you refresh the page
- Blog calendar showing which articles are posted on which day

On the right-hand side:

- “Top commentators” list showing who are the most active on the site
- the Blogroll linking those who are providing articles to the web site
- category listing for all the various articles posted on the site
- archive menu for historical reference

In addition, I will be placing a few content-driven ads and referral buttons to sites which I believe might be useful for you.  By no means are you required to visit these ads nor do I need the revenue to fund the site.  These ads are solely for your benefit, just in case you find something that interest you while you visit here.  However, once I have retooled the site, I will be creating a section listing sites and services I do recommend, and I will provide an description of each at that time.

Thanks for your patience in this process.  If you have any recommendations, I am always open to suggestions.

Hey I like the new/old add-ons. Hey I’m trying to push the story I have up on my blog. It will never be covered in MSM and I want people to know about this. You can go to any grocery store and find out that Brittney got her kids back but a true hero and warrior like this will never be shown.

It’s about the Navy SEAL who just received the Medal of Honor. He’s the first SEAL since Vietnam to get one and unfortunately was killed in June 2005 during the mission in the Hindu Kush mountains to find a key Taliban leader he is being awarded for. Ambushed by insurgents, Murphy’s four-man SEAL team engaged in a fierce firefight and was in danger of being overrun.

Although he was wounded, Murphy risked his life to save fellow SEALs and then maneuvered into an open position to send out an emergency call and to continue firing at the enemy. While making the call, he was hit again.

Only one of the SEALs on the team survived. Eight other SEALs and eight soldiers aboard a MH-47 Chinook helicopter sent to rescue Murphy’s team also were killed when the craft was brought down by a rocket-propelled grenade.

The incident was the worst single-day loss of life for Navy Special Warfare personnel since World War II.

Thanks Ed. I will bring that article over this evening. Our troops deserve as much credit and attention to their good work as possible. We often overlook their successes and sacrifices when discussing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
