In a bit of a surprise, John McCain taps Sarah Palin to be his Vice President. For over a week, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, and Joe Lieberman were being talk about as the potential pick, though Palin’s name had been mentioned in the past. Succeeding where the Obama campaign didn’t, the announcement of Palin was kept a secret until the hour of the event. The success of this secret kept the media’s attention from continuing coverage of the post-Obama speech last night during the closing of the DNC convention.
Being a “dark horse” candidate, there isn’t much that the public knows about her. She holds a bachelors degree in journalism with a minor in political science. In 1992, she was elected to the City Council of Warsilla, Alaska, and held that position for four years. In 1996, she became Mayor, holding the position for 6 years. She was elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors during her second term. In 2003 and 2004, she served as the Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. In 2006, she won an upset election to become Governor of Alaska, where she currently serves.

Howdy my friend! I am so pleased with the pick! I was ready to write in a choice come November. I actually had no intention of voting for McCain or Obama. Having learned of this woman about 3 months ago from another blogger – I was quite impressed with her. I was quite surprised to hear McCain actually picked her. I believe she will totally re-energize the McCain campaign and the Republican party as a whole with her strong conservative values.
Palin is a colluder and a terrible pick. He is trying to appeal to HRC voters and none of them are going to support a woman that is going to work towards overturning roe v wade to say nothing of her anti-gay marriage stance. I am disgusted with people promoting her conservative values when what they actually mean is making sure that the power stays within the hands of the rich white males. She supports the very system that seeks to limit her choices. It is called internalized patriarchy and women like that make me ill.
Oh, I see Renee got the MoveOn.org talking points e-mail that is filled with falsehoods extracted directly from Wikipedia (that ever so reliable source of everything that is incorrect!) – Seriously, Renee? When was the last time a Vice President ever signed a law in to effect? When was the last time a Vice President overturned a Supreme Court decision? And, in case you haven’t been paying attention, 58% of this country oppose gay marriage – so – she’s in the majority (source: http://www.pollingreport.com/civil.htm). Again..you guys just keep coming up with stuff – none of it will stick to her!!! She’s the ultimate feminist – but – she’s not feminist enough because she opposes abortion. You guys are hypocrites!
