Pray for Texas

As one who has sailed into Galveston on a tanker in my past life, I am familiar with the terrain down there.  And believe me when I say this – Galveston is in trouble.  Pray for all of those that remained behind to ride out the storm, as well as for all of those further in land that will be impacted by all of the rain that is expected to fall from this slow moving Hurricane.  Ike is a beast, and he is definitely going to alter the coastline when he comes ashore.

Thanks for the linkback on the previous post. It’s much appreciated! My thoughts and prayers are going out to our Texan friends. I just heard there is a 584 freighter stuck out in the Gulf – there are 22 people on board and the coast guard attempted one rescue – but the seas were up to 50 feet. They called it off and said the rescue is impossible. My prayers are going out to those seamen as well. I sure hope they are able to weather this storm! Tomorrow will be a very telling day.

  2. Definitely! I have a ship video I need to e-mail you that you might like (check your Project Wonderful inbox).

I’m still waiting for later in the day to call my sister who lives in Eastern Texas (not on the coast), just to see how well her house held up. Looking at the radar right now, she should be receiving the leading bands of heavy rain, with a few hours of high winds yet to come.

  3. I talked with my sister, and she reported only having a power outage for four hours. She did not experience the high winds as much as she did the rain. Fortunately, there was no major damage to her home or those nearby.
