Tuesday is the day. Go to the polls! Get your voice on record.
That is my message to you all. If you have not already done so, head to the polls tomorrow and cast your vote for one of the many presidential candidates currently running for office. While we’ve focused primarily on John McCain and Barack Obama, there are numerous candidates running this year. They are:
John McCain/Sarah Palin – Republican Party
Barack Obama/Joe Biden – Democratic Party
Chuck Baldwin/Darrell Castle – Constitution Party
Bob Barr/Wayne Allen Root – Libertarian Party
Cynthia McKinney/Rosa Clemente – Green Party
Ralph Nader/Matt Gonzalez – Independent
Steve Adams/Bob Hargis – Independent
Alan Keyes/Brian Rohrbough – Independent
Gene Amondson/Leroy Pletten – Prohibition Party
Roger Calero/Alyson Kennedy – Socialist Workers Party
Charles Jay/Thomas Knapp – Boston Tea Party
Gloria La Riva/Eugene Puryear – Socialism & Liberation Party
Brian Moore/Stewart Alexander – Socialist Party
Thomas Stevens/Alden Link – Objectivist Party
As you can see, there are at least fourteen tickets running for office this year. They might not all be on your states ballot, but you usually have the option to write in the name of a candidate that isn’t listed.
When you vote, I encourage you to put aside the typical “party” mindset. Put aside the hype. Put aside “history in the making.” It is easy to get wrapped up in all the talking points and the rhetoric. I encourage you to sit down, examine the positions of the candidates, and determine how they will impact your personal situation and the situation of the nation.
I will not tell you who to vote for, but I do ask you to think before you vote. It is your job as a citizen of this great nation to make an informed decision. Take tonight, review the candidates, talk to your family to see who has your best interest and the interest of the nation above their own, and head to the polls armed with the knowledge to choose the person you think is best qualified to lead our country for the next four years as well as possibly appoint judges to the Supreme Court – which impacts our nation for decades.
