U.S. Common Sense makes the Top 100

What a way to celebrate the Fourth of July.  As I have commented before, I am registered with a service called BlogBurst.  As stated on their website, “BlogBurst [is] a syndication service that places blogs on top-tier online destinations.” Through the past 11 months, articles written by myself have been displayed on the following media outlets:

  • Chicago Sun-Times (Chicago Sun-Times, Post-Tribune, Lake County News-Sun, SouthTown Star)
  • Cox Ohio (Dayton Daily News)
  • FoxNews (Fox Business)
  • Houston Chronicle
  • Palm Beach Post
  • Reuters
  • Time Warner (Road Runner)
  • USA Today
  • Wall Street Journal
  • Ziff Davis Enterprise (eWeek Microsoft Watch)

During the Second Quarter (April 1st through June 30th), my articles received over 800,000 headline impressions through the BlogBurst service, with my articles being read over 870 times during that period. This activity was enough to place me in the top 100 websites for the quarter, finishing in 93rd place (I peaked at 80th). The following is a chart of the activity of the site during that period:

If any of you are active bloggers, you may wish to explore the BlogBurst website to see if it is a service that is right for you. The service is free, but there are some specific requirements that your blog must meet to qualify.

Thank you all for helping the U.S. Common Sense blog do so well over the past three months. Your participation in the discussions makes it worth while for me.

  1. Congrats. Always a pleasure to read this blog.

  2. Thanks Brian. You might want to check out the service yourself. It could help with your future goal of Journalism.

Congrats!!!!! I've tried to sign up for Blogburst in the past (2 times now) and each time they tell me that my content isn't compatible. Bwahahaha..personally, I think they're just scared of the evil clown! LOL

  4. HAHAHA!

You might be on to something. As a Tim Curry fan, the clown in “IT” gets me sometimes.

Any post or topic in particular get the attention?

  6. You know John, I tried to “guess” with that over the past three months without much success. The posts that did well were:

    1) Taxing Marijuana
    2) Will Burris make it to reelection?
    3) Pelosi caught in a lie
    4) Illegal Immigrants and Identity Theft
    5) Is Sotomayor racist?
    6) Why I think Palin is wrong
    7) Obama supports a nuclear Iran?
    8) Code of Conduct and Senator Boxer
    9) The death of a king: Michael Jackson
    10) Reverse Discrimination and the Supreme Court

Some articles that I thought were going to be a hit to the media outlets were never even picked up. My thought on that is the articles were too long. Most of the successful articles were in the 500 – 600 word range and based on current events.

Hmm, interesting, I signed up with them but still have to finish setting up my account. I need a good logo for one.

  8. I just used my U.S. Flag logo. Here are a few examples of how the articles display on different media outlets:

    - SouthtownStar

    - Road Runner

    - USA Today

    - FOX Busines News

  9. John Kaduk says:

So I take it you don't get a hit if they just read the post their but don't click through to your site?

  10. It's not really based on hits/reads, but rather how many time your headline appears on the website. So say for example I had an RSS Feed linking 5 articles from around the web in my right-hand sidebar. Everytime someone visits my site, your headline would receive one impression. The people don't have to click on the link to read your article, nor do they have to visit your site through the article. That's just increased traffic to your website, and not counted towards your headline impressions.

Ahh I get it, thanks for the info.

  12. Anytime. :) Best of luck if you get picked up!

I think now that I have a new theme – I might give it another shot..we'll see.
