I would like to thank Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia for pointing out an unforeseen threat to Guam. For those of you who are not familiar with Guam, it is our Eastern-most territory (due to the international date line) in the Pacific. The United States has claimed ownership of the island ever since the end of the Spanish-American War in 1898.
With plans to start scaling back the presence of U.S. armed forces in Japan (under the agreement of 2006), the U.S. is relocating the troops to Guam. This relocation has led to millions of dollars to be spent on developing the military bases on the tiny island to receive over 8,000 troops as well as their families and the support staff needed to handle the increased presence. With this sudden population swell on the island, Rep. Johnson discovered an unforeseen threat to the island. It is going to capsize!
That’s correct, according to Johnson, the increase in population on the tiny island (which is only 30 miles long and ranges between 4-12 miles wide), the increased population and weight of equipment will cause the island to tip over. He states, “My fear is that the whole island will become so overly-populated that it will tip over and capsize.” Here’s the video:
Can someone please replace him?
