Vice Presidential Debate – Initial Reaction

This was a very lively 90 minutes.  There were times where I’m not sure if either Joe Biden or Paul Ryan completed a sentence since they were constantly arguing over each other.  But when they were respecting each others time, both candidates sounded sure about their positions and firmly defended those positions when challenged by their opponent.

Two things were obvious in their exchanges that will probably be the take-aways in the media circle tomorrow.  Paul Ryan’s weakness in foreign policy shows.  While the answers he gave were done so with confidence, he had problems clearly answering the questions directed to him and danced around the issue until pressed for a focused answer.  On the other hand, Joe Biden projected a sense of condensation throughout the debate by constantly smirking at Ryan’s responses and interrupting when he couldn’t contain himself.

In the end, I feel this was an entertaining 90-minute debate that won’t have much of an impact on the polls.

  2. I very much enjoyed the VEEP debate. And I’m extremely nervous about the upcoming 2nd Obama/Romney debate. I sure hope Obama gets his act together.

    • He definitely found his voice, that’s for sure. I don’t know if either of the two candidates demeanor last night won them any respect by the undecided however. I thought they were acting more like playground kids than Presidential candidates. They need to do better in the final debate.
