“Democrat Suspects New Senate Amnesty Bill Will Leads To Establishment Of ‘North American Union’”
Constitution Party – 6/26/2007

With the Senate on the verge of regurgitating a huge amnesty bill and the House of Representatives likely just waiting to bring up a twin measure, this Democrat is cringing with disbelief at the perfidy and chutzpah of these elected officials.

Much to the chagrin of the Washington elites, including the Washington Post, the screams from the grass roots of America (strongly bipartisan, by the way) are reaching the ears of state legislatures. Finally, the Post did a June 25th story entitled “Illegal Immigrants Targeted by States| Impasse on Hill Spurs New Laws.” (by Darryl Fears.)

No more “Waiting for Godot” for these states—the first real sign of state action since California Governor Pete Wilson’s attempt to get Federal compensation for those illegal immigrants and since California citizens voted in favor of Proposition 187.

“The Rogues’ Gallery”
Free-Market News Network – 6/27/2007

A few points of clarification:

I am not a neutral observer, nor do I pretend to be. I support a particular candidate (Steve Kubby) for the Libertarian Party’s presidential nomination and for the presidency of the United States. I work on that candidate’s campaign staff (although I am no longer his campaign manager or his campaign’s public spokesperson). I can be expected to promote my preferred candidate’s interests at every opportunity.

I recognize no duty to be “even-handed” in my treatment of candidates here at Kn@ppster. This is my blog. It’s my soapbox. I use it to communicate the things I want communicated. I keep the door open for damn near unlimited comment content — the only thing I’ve blocked or removed so far is outright spam and I don’t have any plans to change that — but if you want a bigger microphone, tough. You can’t have mine. Get your own. It’s free.

All that said, I don’t think that the best way to support my candidate is to hype him to the exclusion of mentioning or discussing his opponents. If he’s really the best of the bunch — and I firmly believe he is — he’ll look even better when I stand him up next to the opposition. Half the time he’ll hang them, the other half of the time they’ll hang themselves.

“Thompson’s Backers Check His ‘Fire in the Belly’ for 2008 Race”
Bloomberg – 6/28/2007

June 28 (Bloomberg) — Fred Thompson looks the part, and usually gets it.

Long before he became a Hollywood actor, people offered him roles tailor-made for his imposing stature, his rich baritone and his homespun dignity. Throughout his life, he said in a television interview in March, “doors have opened for me and I had the sense to walk through them.” He has ascended without much apparent effort from country lawyer to prosecutor to U.S. senator while building a parallel career as a film and TV actor, notably in the NBC series “Law & Order.”

Now, the powerful Tennessee Republicans who propelled Thompson, 64, into politics three decades ago want to cast him in the role of a lifetime: president of the United States. The question, some of them say, is whether he wants it badly enough to endure the rigors of a campaign.

“House Members Seek Pay Raise of $4,400″
MyWay – 6/28/2007

WASHINGTON (AP) – Despite low approval ratings and hard feelings from last year’s elections, Democrats and Republicans in the House are reaching out for an approximately $4,400 pay raise that would increase their salaries to almost $170,000.

The cost-of-living raise endorsed Wednesday evening gets lawmakers back on track for automatic pay raises after a fight between the parties last year and again in January killed the pay increase due this year. That was the first interruption of the annual congressional pay boost in seven years.

The blowup came after Democrats last year fulfilled a campaign promise to deny themselves more pay until Congress raised the minimum wage. Delays in the minimum wage bill cost every lawmaker about $3,100 this year.

“Sharing the secrets of the Constitution”
The Politico – 6/28/2007

Don’t you wish the U.S. Constitution was not a secret document, its contents known only to a few?

Don’t you wish there were copies of it that we could distribute to schoolchildren so they could become better citizens? Or maybe we could put it up on the Web for everybody to read?

What? The Constitution is not a secret document? Schoolchildren do learn about it? And it is on the Web?

I don’t think so. And I think I can prove it.
