I have a question for you, and I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

If you didn’t hear the news, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy was attacked on Sunday during a political rally.  Massimo Tartaglia, a man in the audience, threw a small statue at Berlusconias he passed through the crowd.  The statue broke two of the Prime Minister’s teeth and his nose, as well as cutting his cheek.  He is currently in the hospital receiving care.

Now step back one year from today.  During a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, President George W. Bush stared down two shoes thrown at him by Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi.  We know the story well, with the video of Bush dodging both shoes and then smiling later once the situation was under control.  Video games and viral spoofs were made about the event, a credit to how light-hearted tone surrounding the incident since Bush was not hurt.

But what would have been the response in the United States (or around the world) if what happened to Berlusconi happened to Bush?  I’m interested to hear others perspective on this.
