A new year comes new ideas. Here is a list of what I am planning for next year.

1)  The United States and the Philippines: If you have been following the blog for the past month, you know I am in the middle of a project regarding the history between the United States and the Philippines, and asking the question “What would have happened if the US tried to turn the Philippines into a state.” I am currently working on part III, and I plan to have this project completed before the end of February.

2)  Political Blog Weekly: The weekly faded into the background during the fall. I plan to bring it back, but in a new format. My idea for the next version of the weekly is to mix the topic-based format I originally used with a Blog Carnival. This way, you can share your material with us, and I can blend it with articles I find interested and worth sharing. I haven’t worked out all of the details yet, but I hope to have the weekly back up and running in January.

3)  Homepage redesign: I rarely talk about the homepage of this site since most of my activity occurs on the blog. Currently, I have the major historical documents that led to our current form government listed in a text format. What I would like to do is:

  • Change the visual layout to a more professional look
  • Create an interactive list of the US Presidents
  • Create an interactive map of the United States and our territories
  • Establish what I view to be common sense positions on the major domestic and foreign policy issues

This will obviously take a lot of time, but I plan to have all four of those points completed before the end of 2010.  To keep you up to date on my progress, items 2 – 4 will be added as posts within the blog.  That way, you too can offer comments, criticisms, and suggestions for the material

4)  Social Networking:  As you know, I have recently listed the U.S. Common Sense blog on Facebook through their Networked Blogs application.  What I am planning is to create a political discussion group with other bloggers to the discussion further.  My site has always been based on encouraging thoughtful debate on the issues so we can become better informed and make better decisions.  I have already brought this idea up to three of our fellow bloggers, and hopefully we’ll work out the concept by the new year.

From this list above, you can tell that I am celebrating the fourth anniversary year of the blog by expanding its purpose.  It is ambitious, but I believe that I can accomplish it all.  Your encouragement and involvement will help.  And with that said, I am going to do something that our elected officials should do.  I will post this list (my “campaign promises”) in the sidebar and check them off as I complete them.
